SOL-GEL PRODUCTION OF Al2O3 ANTI-REFLECTION COATINGS
KAJA ŠIŠKOVIČ

Abstract

In the frame of diploma thesis Al2O3 antireflective coatings using the sol-gel method were fabricated. However, for the comparison also SiO2 coatings were made . Coatings were applied by dip-coating technique and thermally treated through drying at different  temperatures and boiled in deionized water. Anti-reflection coatings were analyzed with scanning electron microscope (SEM). Also their optical properties (reflection, haze) were studied.

It was found that all the Al2O3 and SiO2 coatings were of good quality and free of cracks, except the Al2O3 coating dried at 200 °C which showed some cracks. The reason for their occurrence were dust particles on the glass. The light transmission through the glass with coatings was slightly better than the one that was not coated. The best antireflection properties were observed in the case of SiO2, coating which also had the lowest haze.
